Madonna and Guy Ritchie have promised to keep their divorce clean for the sake of their children.
The troubled couple vowed that their split will not become an ugly public spectacle after seeing the divorce saga between Paul McCartney and Heather Mills drag on for over a year.
"As far as Guy is concerned, they need space and time apart," a friend of the couple told the Daily Star. "One of their biggest priorities is to remain on good terms - they don't want to get involved in any mud-slinging.
"They also respect each other too much to get into the kind of battle that the McCartneys went through."
Madonna is expected to officially announce the split in November.
Ritchie is the stepfather of Madonna's 11-year-old daughter Lourdes. They also have a seven-year-old son, Rocco, and adopted two-year-old David Banda together.
