Jamelia denies trying to compete with Rooney

Jamelia has insisted that her decision to get married on the same day as Wayne Rooney was not a deliberate stunt.

The R&B singer tied the knot with her long-term partner Darren Byfield in West Sussex as Wayne and his childhood sweetheart Coleen McLoughlin exchanged their vows in Italy.

"It just so happened we decided to get married on the same weekend," Jamelia told Sky Showbiz. "It wasn't because of Coleen and Wayne's wedding, it was more that that was when the venue was available."

Asked if she is enjoying married life, the star replied: "I must say it's not really that much of a difference. I think it's great more for other people, because it's now official. It's nice to refer to him as my husband and me as his wife, but apart from that, it's not much different."

Jamelia and Darren have a two-year-old daughter Tiani together. Jamelia also has seven-year-old daughter Teja from a previous relationship.
