Christina Aguilera has spoken about the importance of spending time away from her five-month-old son.

The singer insisted that parents should not feel guilty about hiring babysitters when they want to have fun together.

Speaking about the approach that she and husband Jordan Bratman have to parenting, Aguilera told Glamour magazine: "We make sure we have mommy and daddy nights out. Our child comes first, obviously, but there are certain things you can do.

"Once we know he's in good hands, we go out late at night and have a few drinks. Then we'll come home, dim the lights and do our thing! And I'm not going into any more detail than that!"

Christina had previously blasted "mean-spirited" criticism of her partying.
