Tarrant: 'I fell out of love with music'

Chris Tarrant has revealed that his four-year absence from radio was due to his lack of enthusiasm for music.

The 61-year-old broadcaster, who will return to airwaves this month for GMG Radio, admitted that listening to music became a chore.

He said: "It was exhausting and I just stopped listening to music. I would get up at 5 o'clock in the morning and play music all day at work. So I stopped listening to it for pleasure. I realised I wasn't even listening to CDs in the car."

Tarrant revealed that the Live 8 concert helped reignite his passion for music.

"It was at Live 8 seeing Pink Floyd and all those amazing bands play live," he explained. "And I went out and bought a stack of new albums and to the amazement of my children I mastered my iPod and I started enjoying music again."

The Chris Tarrant Show will broadcast Saturdays on eight GMC stations from July 26.
