Angelina Jolie will give birth to twins "within the next few weeks", the star's doctor has revealed following her admission to hospital in France.

Obstetrician Dr Michel Sussmann, from the Santa Maria maternity clinic in Nice, announced that the actress and her children with partner Brad Pitt are well.

"Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have asked us to let you know that she's very well and she will give birth within the next few weeks," he said. "It isn't emergency, it's completely planned. We're not talking about a premature birth.

"She's a pregnant woman and she's entitled to preserve her privacy. She will stay in the hospital as long as it takes then she will be allowed to go home."

He added: "I have a very high respect for both her and her husband and she's a very good patient."

Sussmann also revealed that four rooms had been reserved for Jolie, Pitt and their staff.
