Bateman: 'Acting is an awful job'

Jason Bateman has described the acting profession as "awful".

The Arrested Development star said it is difficult for screen stars to control their own careers.

He told Parade: "Being an actor is really an awful way to make a living because you truly can't help yourself. In any other profession, you can kind of stay at the office an extra few hours and impress the boss.

"But as an actor, you kind of have to wait for the phone to ring, so it is frustrating at times."

Bateman is currently starring alongside Will Smith in superhero movie Hancock.
