Popstar Lily Allen has spoken out about the increase in stabbings in the UK.

Knife crime has been pushed to the forefront of the political agenda following the deaths of 19 teenagers in London so far this year.

Writing on her online blog, Allen said: "Please can everyone stop stabbing each other in the UK, it's really sad, my thoughts are with all the families affected by these heinous crimes.

"We need to have a knife amnesty, we should put on a big concert to raise awareness and stop the violence, Boris [Johnson, London Mayor], if you're listening, call me man."

Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher yesterday blamed video games for the rise in knife-related deaths.
