John Cusack is suing the company behind his shelved action movie Stopping Power.

The Being John Malkovich actor claimed that Intermedia Film Equities USA promised to pay him £2.25 million ($4.5 million) even if the movie wasn't completed.

According to TMZ, Cusack is seeking £2.8 million in compensation, which includes payment to cover his expenses.

Stopping Power, which was to be helmed by Jan De Bont (Speed), halted production last year when several companies pulled out of financing the film.

Cusack recently signed to lead the cast of Roland Emmerich's disaster film 2012.
