The TV host drifted apart from Jesse as she started spending much of her time in the US, where she is fronting reality show Last Comic Standing for NBC.
A source told The Mirror: "Fearne and Jesse have been on rocky ground for months. Fearne has hardly seen Jesse. They have tried to make time for each other but it just wasn't working. It was all very amicable but eventually Fearne told Jesse it was over."
Cotton has previously dated Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard, Lost Prophets star Ian Watkins and former Fame Academy contestant Peter Brame.
Fearne insisted last month that she would never leave the UK to work in America full-time.
