A blue plaque has been unveiled at the home of late St Trinian's star Alastair Sim.

The character actor is best known for his lead roles in 1951 film Scrooge and 1960's School For Scoundrels.

He also famously played headmistress Miss Fritton in two St Trinian's comedies in the 1950s.

The English Heritage plaque was unveiled at 8 Frognal Gardens in Hampstead by Sim's daughter Merlith McKendrick. Sir Ian McKellen and Barbara Windsor were also present at the ceremony.

Sim was born in Edinburgh in 1900 but spent his last 20 years in London, where he died of cancer in 1976.

Blue plaques are erected in the capital to mark buildings in which a famous person lived or worked.
