Alice Cooper has advised troubled star Amy Winehouse to think carefully about what she wants from life.

The rock star expressed fears that Winehouse will die young if she continues down her current destructive path.

"Honestly, Amy's too talented to be messing around like that," Alice told the Daily Star. "At some point she's gotta take a step back and say: 'Am I gonna live or die?' She's got a long career, if she wants it. But I'm not her dad."

Cooper, who battled with alcohol addiction himself in the 70s, admitted that he is surprised by how quickly Winehouse and Pete Doherty have damaged their health.

"You're indestructible in your twenties," he explained. "Except I wasn't playing around with things as destructive as they are. It took me until I hit 40 before I almost died from alcohol, but it's weird when you're in your twenties and almost dying from alcohol. That's a lot of alcohol."
