Grammer nearly died from heart attack

Kelsey Grammer has admitted that he nearly died after suffering a heart attack at the end of May.

The actor's publicist described the attack as "mild" at the time, but Grammer has now revealed the true extent of the scare in an interview with US TV show Entertainment Tonight.

Grammer told the news programme that his heart stopped beating at one point. He said: "They had to blast me twice and get me started all over again. I did think: 'Oh gosh, I have got to hang on. I've got too much junk I've got to take care of. I've got to take care of the family.'"

The former Frasier star explained that he started experiencing chest pains while he was out paddle-boarding with his wife in Hawaii. Describing the pain, he said that it felt "like somebody was actually trying to tear my chest apart with, like, the jaws of life."

Grammer's most recent sitcom Back To You was cancelled three weeks before he suffered the health scare.
