Amy MacDonald's footballer fiancé Steve Lovell turned down a move to Bournemouth because he did not want to be parted from her.

The former Aberdeen player was setting off in his car to sign the deal when he suddenly realised that MacDonald was more important to him.

"I started the drive and as I got down the road I knew I couldn't go," Lovell told the Daily Record. "I turned round, back to Amy. I realised my future was in Scotland."

The striker, who is now in talks to play for Falkirk, also admitted that he is baffled by the press attention surrounding their relationship.

"It's all 'Amy this, Amy that'. We are two private people and I just think it is pointless," he said. "They took our picture when we were watching a Dundee game together. A Dundee game!"

Singer-songwriter Amy announced her engagement to Lovell earlier this month.
