Wentz picks Mayer to be godfather?

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson reportedly want John Mayer to be godfather to their child.

According to The Sun, the only stumbling block could be Mayer's former relationship with Simpson's sister Jessica.

"They are not sure how Jessica would feel about her ex having such a strong link to her new niece," said a source.

Mayer and Wentz are close friends and regularly write about each other on their personal blogs.

"John gets a bad rap and is always portrayed as a bad boy but he's got a heart of gold," added the source.

"Pete and Ashlee know that and they think he would make a great godparent."

Simpson is expecting her first baby in October.
