The UK pauses to raise awareness of a certain large fruit today with our very first National Watermelon Day (yes, really!). The unofficial public holiday is already a fixture in America’s "fruit festival calendar", where melon enthusiasts host parties, picnics and pip-spitting contests to celebrate the health benefits of their favourite summer snack.
