Morgan Freeman seriously hurt in crash

Morgan Freeman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a car crash in the US.

The actor's car is thought to have veered off a highway in Mississippi and flipped several times at around 11.30pm last night.

He is now in hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where a spokeswoman described his condition as "serious".

Freeman broke his shoulder and arm in the crash but is expected to make a "good" recovery, his representative told TMZ.

A woman in the car was also taken to the Regional Medical Centre, known as The Med.

Freeman, 71, is currently appearing in new Batman film The Dark Knight. He won a best supporting actor Oscar for his role in 2004's Million Dollar Baby.
