Madonna Milestones: Madonna gives birth

October 14, 1996: Madonna has given birth to her first child.

The popstar, 38, welcomed a daughter with personal trainer Carlos Leon at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.

Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, who weighed in at 6lbs 9oz, was born by Caesarean section after a 12-hour labour.

The singer's spokeswoman said: "Mother Madonna Ciccone, father Carlos Leon and their daughter are all resting comfortably.

''We would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes.''

Commenting on the birth, Madonna told People: "This is the greatest miracle of my life."
