The singer appeared in the movie Mrs Henderson Presents in 2005 and later landed the lead role in a production of Noel Coward play The Vortex.
"I love acting and would love to do more projects, but I think it confused people a bit," Will told the Daily Star. "It's tougher for people to cross over here than it is in America.
"I was really encouraged after doing the play as well because I got some good reviews from theatre critics who are known for being quite harsh."
Young is now preparing for the release of his fourth album Let It Go next month following a series of summer festival appearances.
He added: "I've never been so excited about a record. I'm having the best time ever."
