Mum-in-law: 'Winehouse needs a break'

Amy Winehouse's mother-in-law has criticised the star's father Mitch for encouraging her to work when she is "seriously ill".

Despite being diagnosed with emphysema in June and continuing to struggle with drug problems, Winehouse has performed at a number of festivals over the summer.

Georgette Civil spoke out after the star cancelled an appearance at Paris's Rock En Seine music festival on Friday. She has since been threatened with legal action by organisers.

"Amy has serious health and drug dependency problems but she is pushed into work," Civil told the Daily Star. "Her health is more important than prancing around on stage.

"I blame her father and her record company. People around her have a duty to help her before she ends up dead."

Civil has previously claimed that Winehouse needs "tough love" from those around her. Speaking in July, she added: "Amy should get herself back into rehab and stay there as long as is necessary to get her off drugs."
