OJ Simpson on trial for armed robbery

OJ Simpson is expected in court today to face charges of kidnapping and armed robbery.

The 61-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the accusations, which relate to a sports memorabilia heist at Las Vegas's Palace Station Casino last September.

The trial is expected to last five weeks and Simpson could face a life jail term if found guilty. The case was delayed earlier in the year to give Simpson's lawyer Yale Galanter more time to prepare his defence.

Simpson and co-defendant Clarence "CJ" Stewart face charges of kidnapping, armed robbery, assault, burglary, coercion and conspiracy in connection with the heist.

The former American football star was acquitted of his wife's murder in 1995 in a case that was dubbed the "trial of the century".
