Oprah 'most charitable US celeb'

Oprah Winfrey has topped a list of the most charitable celebrities in the US.

The poll, compiled by The Giving Back Fund and Parade magazine, revealed that the chatshow queen has given away in excess of $50 million in the last year.

Causes championed by Winfrey include The Oprah Winfrey Foundation and Oprah's Angel Network, which offer healthcare and education to disadvantaged women and children worldwide.

Musicians Herb Alpert and Barbra Streisand also made the top five, along with film stars Paul Newman and Mel Gibson.
