Pamela Anderson and Matt Damon have criticised the Republican party's vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Speaking to E! at a Toronto rally to raise awareness for animal cruelty, the actress said: "I can't stand her. She can suck it!"

Palin, the governor of Alaska who was selected as John McCain's running mate last month, has courted controversy due to her inexperience and policies on abortion, same-sex marriages and capital punishment.

Matt Damon described Palin's candidacy as "like a really bad Disney movie", claiming that the thought of her becoming president was "absurd".

He said: "I think there's a really good chance that Sarah Palin could be president, and I think that's the really scary thing.

"It's like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mum from Alaska and she's the president and it's like she's facing down Vladimir Putin and using the folksy stuff she learned at the hockey rink and it's absurd.

'It's totally absurd, and I don't know why more people aren't talking about how absurd it is."
