While filming his 2007 documentary Long Way Down with Charley Boorman, McGregor arrived at a tourist spot in Tunisia famed for its use in George Lucas's science fiction saga.
He told Best Life magazine: "We went to the location used in the original Star Wars, where we meet Luke Skywalker and he buys R2-D2 and C-3PO and does them up in the oil bath.
"It has been preserved as a tourist attraction. Now, who goes to an out-of-the-way place like that but a hardcore Star Wars fan?"
He added: "Anyway, we drive up and I'm standing next to my face on a poster and I'm wearing a jersey that says 'McGregor' on the back... and nobody looked twice. It was quite hilarious, actually."
