The film, for which Parton wrote the theme song, focuses on three female office workers who plot revenge on their sexist boss.
Parton has penned 17 new songs for the show, which will premiere in Los Angeles this weekend before heading to Broadway.
Speaking about the appeal of the film, the 62-year-old said: "I think people will always hate their boss and think of ways to get back at them. And still in the workplace, there are people trying to keep you down."
Parton co-starred with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda in the 1980 movie. Their roles will be assumed by Megan Hilty, Allison Janney and Stephanie J. Block in the theatre version.
