Spider-Man musical ready for 2009?

A Broadway musical based on comic book character Spider-Man could hit Broadway next year, according to Marvel.

Studio chairman David Maisel remarked that 2009 may be the year in which the webslinger swings on to the stage.

Casting details for the production, which has been in the works for three and a half years, have yet to be announced.

Marvel previously said it had approached The Edge and Bono from rock group U2 to provide songs for the show, while Julia Taymor, director of the Lion King musical, was also approached.

Actor Toby Maguire signed on for the fourth and fifth movies in the superhero franchise earlier this month.
