Grammer discusses death threats

Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has revealed that he has received death threats because of his political and religious beliefs.

The actor, a Republican and follower of the Christian Science faith, is quoted by the Press Association as saying: "I've had death threats, stuff like that - mostly for my political views. They say 'I should kill you'."

Grammer recalled getting a letter from someone who fiercely objected to his religion, which has sparked controversy due to its views on medical treatment and homosexuality.

"I do think people are entitled to different opinions but one of them was really adamant about it," said Grammer. "It was about ten years ago. It was an odd thing from a weird person. I'm a Christian Scientist but I'm not a full-blown practising one. I actually visit doctors and I do take medication.

"But a lot of the principles of my approach to faith are rooted in that, which is pretty much mind over matter - if you want to reduce it to one thing."

Grammer appears as a Republican president in Kevin Costner's new film Swing Vote, which opens in cinemas this Friday.
