French reveals Saunders suicide support

Dawn French has revealed that Jennifer Saunders helped her get through her father's suicide.

French confessed that she struggled to come to terms with her father's death when she was a teenager and credited comedy partner Saunders with helping her overcome the tragedy.

"I was 19 when my dad committed suicide and was still dealing with it when I went to college and shared a flat with Jennifer," French wrote in Sainsbury's Magazine.

"We were very young but I talked to her about it. Since then, we've lived through a lot of deaths and births together."

French also said that she and Saunders discussed her marriage "wobble" with Lenny Henry.

"We've been there 100% for the difficult times," she said. "I think whichever of us was in trouble, the other would just be there, but not be there too much - it's important to know when to butt out. She was there at the time of my marriage wobble, absolutely."
