Gold Kate Moss statue goes on show

A solid gold statue of model Kate Moss entitled 'Siren' has been unveiled as part of an exhibition of contemporary sculpture.

The 50kg artwork is priced at £1.5 million and is said to be the largest gold statue to be made since the Ancient Egyptian era.

Marc Quinn's work forms part of the exhibition Statuephilia, which has gone on display at The British Museum in London.

Quinn told The Press Association: "I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment. But even Kate Moss doesn't live up to the image."

A display by Damien Hirst entitled Cornucopia also forms part of the exhibition, which is being shown alongside the museum's permanent collection.
