Hollywood heavyweights have helped create a public service announcement encouraging young people in America to vote in the forthcoming presidential election.

The video was produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and appeared on YouTube and other websites yesterday.

The Titanic star is joined by a host of A-listers in the public appeal, including Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria Parker, Dustin Hoffman, Demi Moore and Courteney Cox.

DiCaprio uses reverse psychology at the start of the video, saying: "Please, just don't vote." The message is echoed by other stars before social issues of the day are gradually introduced, such as global warming, health care, education, the war on drugs, the economy and American's foreign policy.

Young people are encouraged to use their vote to make their voices heard, with DiCaprio concluding: "I mean, seriously, after this whole video, if you're not gonna vote, I don't even know what to say. You know you have to vote."
