Thompson: 'Birth my greatest success'

Rex Features

British actress Emma Thompson has cited giving birth without taking drugs to relieve the pain as her greatest success.

The star, who appears in new Britflick Brideshead Revisited, commented that she regards this as a greater achievement than her movie career.

Speaking to Easy Living, the 49-year-old added that she would have liked to have provided brothers and sisters for daughter Gaia, 9. She said "not having been able to have more children" was her biggest regret.

Thompson has previously admitted that her marriage to Kenneth Branagh was a mistake.

"I think if Kenneth and I had had counselling before we got married we might well have thought twice about it," she remarked.
