Sir Sean Connery's much-publicised memoir Being A Scot has sold fewer than 5,000 copies, reports The Mirror.

The former James Bond actor's book, which delves into his Scottish heritage rather than his Hollywood career, has been declared a flop, with one publisher calling its sales "absolutely abysmal".

Publishing insiders have suggested that Being A Scot disappointed fans who want to read about Connery's life.

The 78-year-old's first book is selling around 500 copies a week, while ex-007 star Sir Roger Moore has experienced stronger sales for his memoir My Word Is My Bond.
