Johansson: 'Hillary portrayal was sexist'

Rex Features

Scarlett Johansson has branded the media's treatment of US politician Hillary Clinton "sexist".

The actress said she could not believe the names Clinton was called in some quarters as she was running for the Democratic party's presidential nomination.

Johansson, who recently accused Hollywood of being ageist, told Cosmo Girl that she hopes to see a change in American attitudes toward sexism and racism in the future.

"We still live in a country that's sexist and racist. Those are issues that we deal with whether we want to ignore it or not," she said.

"Seeing how the media portrayed Hillary with unbelievable sexism - some of the things that people were saying were just so overwhelming. You just couldn't believe the names that they were calling her!"
