A children's charity has hailed Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne for their work helping to improve playgrounds across Los Angeles.

The couple were honoured with the Good News Foundation's Good News Makers Of The Year accolade at its annual High Flying Fundraiser luncheon.

ET Online reported that the organisation recently achieved its target of $8 million (£4.3 million) dollars raised from 400 grants.

Douglas, 91, will also be lauded at the Ambassadors for Humanity Gala Dinner on October 22.
