Brad Pitt has written a letter to Los Angeles Fire Department bosses in an attempt to get them to change a ruling against tattoos.

The Burn After Reading actor has claimed that the policy, which means firemen and women have to cover up the decorations, is a potential safety hazard.

"[Pitt] thinks it's ridiculous that these guys who risk their lives to help people have these restrictions put upon them," a source told Star magazine.

"He wanted to make sure the department heads knew that the people of L.A. don't care about tattoos - they care about them doing their job well."
