Matt Damon is taking part in a Florida voting convention to garner support for US Presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The Bourne Identity star was in attendance at the 'VoteFest '08' event yesterday, and will continue to rally votes for Obama today with fellow actors Alicia Silverstone and Kerry Washington.

Damon said that he thinks his celebrity status can help sway voters into choosing the Democrat when they head to polling booths next week.

"It is very important for me to do what I can to help the Obama campaign so people will go out and vote," he told People. "We need change in this country and now is the time to be sure that happens."

Damon has also been vocal in his criticism of Sarah Palin, the running mate of Obama's Republican rival John McCain, calling her appointment to the role "absurd".
