DS Icon: Andrew Sachs
Published Friday, Oct 31 2008, 06:02 GMT | By Alex Fletcher
He may have just suffered at the hands of a cruel prank from Radio 2's Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand, and his granddaughter may have been outed as a member of a burlesque troupe called the Satanic Sluts, but there's much more to Andrew Sachs then a few eye-catching Daily Mail headlines.
Possessing the three key ingredients of a good comedian - a willingness to play the clown, timing, and the ability to perform in a dodgy Spanish accent - Sachs is one of the nation's most undervalued funnymen. Whether it was providing the voiceovers for William's Wish Wellingtons or taking the physical abuse of John Cleese as clueless waiter Manuel in Fawlty Towers, his performances have never been anything other than hilarious.
Digital Spy presents a celebration of Sachs's 50-year career in pictures and salutes him as our very first DS Icon.
