Katie Melua 'creeped out' by fame

Katie Melua has admitted that she felt uneasy with the idea of fame when she first arrived on the music scene.

The singer claimed that she still gets "the creeps" when she contemplates her celebrity status, despite releasing her first album Call Off The Search four years ago.

The Press Association quotes her as saying: "I spent most of the first year or two denying it completely to myself because it was so far removed from what I expected and the thought of fame itself, I don't know why, but it just gave me the creeps, part of it still does, so I didn't really enjoy it.

"I loved the fact that people like my music and it was selling so well, I'm not going to lie about it, but just the whole celebrity thing was weird."

The 24-year-old described fame as an "annoying little side effect of my job" and insisted that she has no interest in joining the celebrity party circuit.
