Jennifer Hudson's family has set up a charity to help relatives of murder victims.

The foundation is named The Hudson-King Foundation For Families Of Slain Victims after the singer's mother, brother and nephew.

Darnell Hudson Donerson and Jason Hudson were found shot dead at the family home in Chicago on Friday, while the body of Hudson's nephew, Julian King, was discovered in an abandoned vehicle on Monday.

In a statement, the family said: "The specific purpose of the foundation is to care for the needs of families who have lost relatives to a violent crime. This encompasses their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter as well as grief counselling."

The foundation was unveiled following a prayer vigil held in Chicago, after which the Reverend Jesse Jackson told People that the family were "overwhelmed by the suddenness and the unexpectedness of it all".

He said: "This family knows triumph, and they also know tragedy."

The estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia, William Balfour, 27, is still being held by police on an alleged parole violation. No-one has been charged for the killings.
