Carr calls Maidstone 'homophobic'
Alan Carr has branded the people of Maidstone 'racist and homophobic'.

The comedian claimed that he has never had a good gig in the Kent town, and thinks promoting his new book there might be difficult because "half the people can't read".

"They hated me. I never lasted more than seven minutes. It was full of homophobic narrow-minded morons," he said.

"It wasn't just me. If you were black or Asian, you got racist abuse. If you were a woman you got: 'Show us your tits'."

Tory MP Ann Widdecombe, whose constituency includes Maidstone, said that Carr's comments were "complete rot".
