Joaquin Phoenix 'not off the wagon'

A representative for Joaquin Phoenix has denied rumours that the actor has fallen off the wagon.

The Walk The Line star was reported to be drunk at a Paul Newman benefit in San Francisco last week.

"He was slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet," a source told the New York Post.

However, a spokesman for Phoenix, who this week announced his intention to quit acting, insisted that fans should not be concerned by his behaviour.

"He's fine. He just wants to focus on music, and he'll be at the screening of his film Two Lovers on Saturday night in LA," the representative said.

Phoenix was admitted to rehab in 2005 due to problems with alcohol.
