Byrne blasts "hockey mum" Palin

Ex-Talking Heads singer David Byrne has warned Americans against voting for the Republican party at today's Presidential elections.

The outspoken musician, who is ineligible to vote as he is not a US citizen, wrote an email to his fans urging them not to support John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin, who he described as a "hockey mum".

"The Republicans have made us less safe than before 9/11, bankrupted this economy, started an illegal war they can't - and don't intend to - finish, removed what sympathy [after 9/11] and respect the world had for the US, and have robbed US citizens of many of their basic rights," he said.

"Global warming? What's that? Science and education? Investment in our future? No, thanks - we'll stick with a good 'ole hockey mum. Ignorant, and f**king proud of it, as is always the case."

Rock star Bruce Springsteen recently pledged his support to Barack Obama, claiming the Democratic candidate can revive the American dream.
