Paul Gascoigne will be declared bankrupt if he fails to come up with unpaid taxes within the next nine weeks, reports AFP.
The former England football star is allegedly being chased by UK authorities as he owes £200,000 in unpaid tax returns.
Gascoigne's lawyer Craig Montgomery said outside the London Bankruptcy Court that he had agreed to an adjournment of the case until January 9.
"There is no suggestion that he doesn't have the funds to meet his tax liabilities. It is just a question of having time to make the returns," Montgomery explained. "It takes time to work out where everything is."
The 41-year-old will sell of some of his assets to make the payment, it has been claimed.
Gascoigne was sectioned under the mental health act earlier this year.
