Published Saturday, Nov 8 2008, 13:54 GMT | By Michael Thornton

The 48-year-old actor has previously been tipped for the role by Bill Richardson, currently in office, and has now said he would give up acting in order to make the position work.
"I'm approaching this as a worthy, serious endeavour," he said. "I really love my state. I'd be very comfortable in my position as a representative for the people."
However, the Heat actor acknowledged the difficulty of the position, adding: "I know that I'm not yet qualified for the job and I don't want to be a train wreck."
Other actors who have moved into politics include former US President Ronald Reagan and current California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
