Paul Gascoigne has reportedly decided to publish his rehab diary in an attempt to settle his financial difficulties.

The ex-footballer has been given nine weeks to pay a £200,000 tax debt and is now said to be considering a number of ways to come up with the cash.

Gascoigne is believed to have opened up about his personal problems during a recent rehab stint after a doctor advised him to keep a diary of his progress.

"He's planning to publish the diary, which he is convinced will be a best seller," a source told the Daily Star. "It's a brave decision because it is often the ramblings of a guy who is out of his mind. But he also hopes it may help others who have similar problems to realise there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

"He's also considering doing a TV documentary. His mum feared the stress of having to find all this money would drive him back to drink. But he has phoned her and told her not to worry. She said he genuinely doesn't seem concerned and is convinced he can sort it all out."
