Prince has been instructed to pay a disgruntled former employee $58,000 (£37,000) for unpaid wages.

Video editor Ian C Lewis filed a lawsuit against the popstar and his Paisley Park Enterprises company, accusing them of failing to honour a work contract and damaging his editing equipment.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gregory Alarcon ruled that Prince pay the $58,000 wages claim, but disagreed with Lewis's contention that the 'Purple Rain' singer pay $25,000 for broken equipment.

Alarcon said that Lewis had failed to produce receipts to confirm the cost of the computer.

Prince was not present in court and was not represented by a lawyer at the hearing.
