Ashley Cole sues over cheating claims

Ashley Cole is planning to sue a number of newspapers over stories which alleged that he cheated on wife Cheryl.

Cole's legal team will use the European Convention on Human Rights to argue at the High Court that the stories contained private information representing an "unjustified intrusion" into his personal life.

The footballer is suing for damages over a series of articles which appeared in January and February detailing his alleged relationships with three women.

His action against Mirror Group Newspapers and News Group Newspapers claims he was embarrassed and distressed by the stories, which also upset Girls Aloud star Cheryl.

The couple could be forced to give evidence at trial next year.
