The singer said she wanted to get to know herself before she wed the hip-hop star.
"I was 18 when we first met, 19 when we first started dating. There was no rush," she told US magazine Seventeen.
"I really don't believe that you will love the same thing when you're 20 as you do at 30."
Beyoncé explained that she wanted to learn more about herself before making a lifetime commitment, saying: "Before the age of 25, I would never get married. I feel like you have to get to know yourself, know what you want, spend some time by yourself, and be proud of who you are before you can share that with someone else."
The popstar recently told Oprah Winfrey that she struggles not to talk about her marriage and private life more. "It was difficult and it still is because I'm so excited about it, but it's important that I keep things that are pure and real in perspective, and I keep it separate from my performance life," she said.
Beyoncé releases new album I Am... Sasha Fierce on November 17.
