James McAvoy has been honoured at the Variety Club's 58th Annual Showbusiness awards.

The 29-year-old was given the charity's Variety Club Film Award for his role in movies such as The Last King Of Scotland and Atonement.

"I think this is the first award I've ever got from a charitable organisation," he said.

"To be able to be associated with them, to be recognised by them, is a privilege, an absolute privilege. I know people who have been helped out by the Variety Club, the point of their operation is about enabling not just giving money, it's about improving quality of life."

The ceremony also saw Michael Caine presented with the award for Outstanding Contribution To Showbusiness, while Noel Edmonds received the Showbusiness Personality prize.
