Donovan: 'I hated being a heartthrob'

Jason Donovan has confessed that he struggled with his heartthrob image in the '80s.

The 40-year-old found himself the focus of attention for teenage girls when he appeared as Scott Robinson in Neighbours and subsequently launched a pop career.

Recalling his pinup status to Now, Donovan said: "Ah, my Zac Efron period!

"I set out to be an actor and was lucky enough to land myself in a very successful TV show. But I was never comfortable being a heartthrob.

"Looks come and go. But my life's been blessed, I've lived the dream. I'm still living it."

Donovan, whose new album Let It Be Me is out now, recently revealed that he wants to record a cover of 'Especially For You' with Martine McCutcheon.
