Phillips: 'GMTV' strained my marriage

Rex Features

Fiona Phillips has said that marriage pressures contributed to her decision to quit GMTV after 15 years.

The host announced plans to leave the show in September, with Sky presenter Emma Crosby recently revealed as her replacement.

Phillips previously said her decision was primarily due to her father's Alzheimer's. However, she has now revealed that she also feared her marriage to show editor Martin Frizell may fall apart if she continued in the role.

"It's been tough. Sometimes things happen at work with management and I actively despised Martin because he's part of management. That's so unhealthy. So yes, it has affected our relationship. I didn't realise just how much until I resigned," she said.

"It's a been a real strain. I can say that now that I'm going. It's been so difficult. Really difficult."

Phillips, 47, will take her seat on the GMTV sofa for the final time on December 18.
